Lesson Eight

Text on a Curve

This tutorial will show you how to create text on a curve.

This is a great idea for sprucing up your banners, signatures or whatever you are making.

Tools used in this tutorial

Draw Tool

Text Tool

Crop Tool

1. Open a new canvas 500 x 300...this is large but we will resize later

2. Grab your Draw Tool  and set the tool options palette as follows

making sure Antialias and Create as vector are checked

Set your foreground styles colour to red # C00000 and your background styles colour to NULL

Draw a wavy line like I have in the image below.......if you are not happy with your line, Edit > UNDO until you are

3. Now grab the text tool,  and swap the styles colours over so that the foreground is Null and the background is Red

Now place your cursor near the wavy line you have just drawn but do not click till you see the curve underneath the letter A (See Below

This will open your text box.......I have typed in "Text on a Curve" font size 48...with the font "Envision Roman"

You can use any font, size & Message that you wish as long as it fits your curve.

Note....if you drag your text box out of the way you will be able to see how your text looks before you OK it.

Once you are happy with your text......click OK

4. While your text is still selected we will apply an Inner bevel .

Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel.

I have used the preset bevel "Charm" from the drop down menu....you can use any bevel you are happy with......OK

Selections > Select None.

When the box pops up saying the layer will be defloated to nearest raster layer...do you want to continue....Click YES

5. Now go to your layer palette and RIGHT click on Layer 2 go to DELETE...this will remove the wavy line layer so you are left with just your text.

6. Grab your crop tool  and drag it from the top left corner to the bottom right corner of you text making sure your text in inside the box....then double click inside the box to crop it.

7. Add a new raster layer, arrange and send to bottom, Fill with white, Merge and save as JPG

If you want to add anything else to your image then feel free to do so......I have added a few roses to mine.
