Lesson Seven

Making A Gradient Seamless Background

In this lesson we will be making our own Gradient and using an outside filter.

The filter we are using is Called Simple Filters and can be downloaded HERE.

Unzip the files to your Plugins folder within PSP.

You will need to check your Windows/Systems files to see if you have the following file

msvcrt10.dll - this is required for this plugin to work, if you don't have this file it can be downloaded HERE. This needs to be unzipped into your Windows/System folder.

Lets Begin:-

1. These are the colours I am using to make the gradient, Right Click to save to your hard drive and open it up in PSP.

2. Open a new 150 x 150 Transparent Image, on your Colour Palette click on the following button

3. Open any gradient, press Edit and then New, I have called the new gradient Reds, but you can name it whatever you want.

4.To start making the gradient, click on the first pencil shape, Location 0 should be showing, now click on the colour beneath the number, your cursor will change to the eye dropper tool, now click on the first colour on the red colourswatch.

5. Now click on the far right pencil, Location 100 should show in the box, click on the colour box below again and chose the first Red colour again. We now have our first 2 colours of the Gradient.

6. Now to add the next part, now with your cursur click anywhere just underneath the long colour bar, a new pencil will appear, holding in your left mouse button slide the pencil to location 10 or type in 10 in the location box. Click on the colour box again and change this colour to No2 on the red swatch. Now click again and take the new pencil that appears to location 90. The colour will automatically be set.

7. Repeat the above instructions using the following settings

20 & 80 colour 3

30 & 70 colour 4

50 Colour 5 - Your gradient should look the same as this. Press Ok and Ok again.

Now on to make the background:-

1. Select the Gradient you have just made, select the radial style and set the repeats to 8, click OK and floodfill your transparent image.

2. Go to Effects>Plugins>Simple Filters and apply the Pizza Slice Mirror

3. Same again but this time apply Diamonds.

4. Same again but this time apply the Quick Tile setting, this will make your tile seamless

5. Your tile is now finished.

Here are 2 more I have done using Blue and Purple
